Firm News DEBORAH L. GOWEN JOINS SILVER & ARCHIBALD, LLPATHENS, GA – August 31, 2009 – Silver & Archibald, LLP, an Athens-based law firm, announces the addition of attorney Deborah L. Gowen to their firm. Gowen will represent clients with social security and long term disability claims; the firm regularly represents clients in these practice areas, as well as workers’ compensation and personal injury cases. Gowen was awarded the degree of Juris Doctor in 1996 from the University of Georgia’s Lumpkin School of Law. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1987. An Editorial Board member of the Georgia Journal for International and Comparative Law, Gowen was awarded a Governor’s Internship, an Equal Justice Foundation Fellowship, and a NAPIL Rural Legal Corps Fellowship during her tenure at the law school. After passing the State Bar of Georgia in 1996, she practiced as an assistant public defender. In 2000, she moved to Stuart, Florida to pursue a federal civil rights practice, representing the disabled in discrimination claims. After returning to Athens in 2005, Gowen was appointed Executive Director of the Athens Justice Project, a non-profit organization whose mission is to break the cycle of crime and poverty in the Athens community. “We are delighted to have Deborah join our firm,” said Kent Silver, attorney/partner at Silver & Archibald. “Her background in public defense and dedication to the community through organizations like the Athens Justice Project fit well with our firm’s client-centered approach to practicing law.” Gowen is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Florida, and admitted in state and federal courts in both states. Locally, she is a member of the Western Circuit Bar Association. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, where she oversees the Summer Civil Externship program. ### Silver & Archibald, LLP
